The Miracles that Surround You…

Heads up!  Helping your loved one battle cancer is an incredible honor.  It’s also completely overwhelming! You can grab the FREE resource that my family used to help us find enough HOPE and PERSPECTIVE to get through the storm here…

Paying attention to the miracles that surround you is much easier once cancer drops into your life…

Finally appreciating the miracles that surround you is one of the amazing things that happens when you're helping a loved on battle cancer… #amazingthingsthatcomeoutofcancer #miraclesareeverywhere #cancersucks #godsgotyourback

Cancer is so much bigger than we think.  It’s terrible and debilitating.  Cancer is also an incredible teacher that erupts into your life and shows you how to appreciate the miracles that surround you.  You know, the ones that you’ve most likely been taking for granted.

You think you’re able to appreciate the good things in life and on some level, you are and then…

Cancer drops into the world of someone you love, and you’re profoundly affected.  Something begins to build inside of you almost immediately.

Those moments when your whole world is rocked to the core when you are terrified and confused and so overwhelmed that you can barely functionThat’s when you fully appreciate (and desperately miss) the good things in life.

Those are the moments when your appreciation evolves to the next level.  Suddenly the whole world looks different and you’re grateful for miracles that surround you, a slew of things you never even thought about or noticed before.

Like your ability to walk three blocks.  Seems kind of simple, right?  Not to someone who has cancer.

Getting out of bed every day? Eating anything you feel like?  Simple?  Not always.

How about brushing your hair before you head out to work?

See where I am going with this?

We take things for granted.  It’s human nature.

We go through life thinking we have all the time in the world.  And, we forget the simple things that we could not live without because we hardly notice them anymore…

We’ve become so used to having them, that we forget to notice or appreciate how special they are.

Basic things like…

  • The air we breathe…
  • The family we love…
  • The food we eat…
  • The body we wish was thinner…
  • The mind we wish was sharper…
  • The ability to choose our own path…

When something like cancer explodes into your world… We appreciate those things much differently because we start to understand how easy those things are to lose.

Pay attention to the gifts and miracles that surround you, now.  They are EVERYWHERE!

The colors in the sky.  The beauty of nature.  The people who drop into your world and fit perfectly.  The little things that just sort of come together when you need them too…

If you take anything positive at all out of this cancer journey… take the blessings.

Seek them out, notice them and remember what’s it’s like appreciate them.

P.S. If you’re overwhelmed by all this cancer business, we can relate!

  1. I Love reading your articles but at the same time it is very hard. So many friends with cancer and my Dad passed away last year of lymphoma. Enjoy your blog very much!

    1. I totally get that. And I am so sorry about your dad. I wish we could learn all of these lessons without the cancer part… Maybe someday, we can help make that a reality.
