Riding the Cancer Roller Coaster: How to Hold On Through the Turbulence.

DETERMINED YOUNG WOMAN LAYING ON THE GROUND IN THE FALL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MANAGE ALL THE CHOAS THAT COMES WITH CANCER,

When my family first started our cancer journey, we were a ball of fire. All of us.

We were ready to take on the world.

Radiating with positive energy, we had hope coming out of our eyeballs and we were ready to dominate this thing. Seriously, if anyone could have kicked the shit out of cancer, it was us.

We followed every direction, met with every doctor, and attended every appointment.

Chemo :(. Which was horrible, but we did it. Radiation (which was much better :).

We did that too.

We would do anything to beat this.

Here’s what I started realizing about cancer.

WOMAN SITTING ON A DOCK SURROUNDED BY MORNING MIST AND REFLECTING ON THE SITUATION.

Cancer wears you down physically, drains you emotionally, and breaks your spirit little by little.

You experience revolving highs and lows (just like a roller coaster) and the stress is just exhausting. You’re “game on, all the time” and it never seems to stop.

It doesn’t matter if you follow all the rules. It doesn’t matter if you do everything that you are supposed to do, you might still end up defeated. There are no guarantees.

Seriously, what kind of justice is that?

Here’s the thing I want you to remember and it’s the only thing I KNOW FOR SURE…

It doesn’t matter what anyone says.  Doctors can give you estimates based on other people’s situation, but…

God is the only one who knows what’s actually going to happen here.

Just hang on.

Cancer sucks, but it’s only physical.

It can wear you down, but it can’t take your faith. It can’t change your heart or the way you feel. It can’t affect the way you love your family or who you are as a person.

God has a plan. We may not understand it, but he knows what we are going through, and he is right there supporting us. I couldn’t even imagine trying to survive something like this without Him.

When my life started taking all these crazy turns and it seemed like everyone I loved was being diagnosed with cancer, I said to my husband over and over, “God won’t give me more than I can handle.”

If you look closely through the haze and pay attention to what’s happening, you’ll find some pretty incredible things are happening too.

You’ll feel differently about everything. You’ll appreciate things in a way you never expected and above all, you’ll realize that life is short and you don’t want to spend one more minute wasting time.

Hold on and let Him guide you. It’s hard to let go, I know.

MAN hanging on to a rope off the side of a jagged cliff

Let this make you stronger and refuse to let it tear you down.

“You were given this mountain to show others it can be moved.”

And it can be moved. Show the world it can be moved.

You are stronger than even you know.

I know you’re exhausted and things feel like they aren’t getting better…

I know you need a break and you would do ANYTHING for a day off from this, but it’s not in the cards right now.

Cancer is strong, but you are stronger.

You have to hold on a little bit longer. Your family needs you to hold on. Put your faith in God and let Him help you through this. Eventually, things will look better, and you will be so thankful that you didn’t give up.

You can do this.

Just do your best and keep going. Some of the MOST amazing things in this world have been created by people who felt totally defeated and were ready to give up.

This won’t last forever. Eventually, the sun has to shine.

Just hang on.
