I was sitting in the waiting room at Memorial Sloan Kettering today when I saw a woman waiting to be called in. You could practically see the terrifying thoughts running through her head. The fear and the stress was all over her face and I don’t think she actually “saw” anything in that waiting room.
When they called her name for the second time, she jumped up sort of startled like she had forgotten where she was. How does anyone overcome the fear, in a situation like this?
I remember exactly what that feels like.

It’s human nature, you don’t realize how precious life is until the things you love are threatened. It sucks that the only way we seem to be able to truly appreciate things is when we are faced with a tragedy.
The fact is we do appreciate life when everything is good.
