Staying motivated when you’re kicking cancer’s ass can seem impossible.  I promise you can do this!

Staying Motivated When You're Kicking Cancer's Ass. This battle is SO exhausting. Just when I thought that I couldn't go any further, this gave me the motivation I needed to keep going! Cancer is not going to beat me...I am ready to start kicking cancer's ass.

We are chilling in the E.R as I write this.  My dad is sleeping peacefully on the bed while we get a few extra fluids and some medicine to combat the nausea he’s been dealing with when I started thinking about how far we’ve come.

When we first started this journey, we were a ball of fire.  All of us.

My family was ready to take on the world.  We were radiating with positive energy, we had hope coming out of our eyeballs and we were ready to dominate this thing.  Seriously, if anyone could have kicked the shit out of cancer, it was us.

We followed every direction, met with every doctor and attended every appointment.  We probably saw 30 different Dr.’s in 1 month, no joke.  But it didn’t matter…whatever we needed to do to begin kicking cancer’s ass…we would do.

Chemo :(.  Which was horrible, but we did it.  Radiation (which was much better :). We did that too! In addition to our Medical Oncologist and Radiation Oncologist, we met with Thoracic Surgeons, Audiologists, Speech Pathologists, Neuro-Oncologists, Neuro-Ophthalmologists, Physiatrists, Pain Management… the list is never-ending.

Here’s what I am starting to realize about cancer.  It doesn’t matter if you follow all the rules.  It doesn’t matter if you do everything that you are supposed to do, you might still end up defeated.  This assignment of kicking cancer’s ass is not an easy one.

There are no guarantees.

This is what happens… cancer wears you down physically and emotionally and it breaks your spirit little-by-little.  You experience revolving highs and lows and the stress just drains you.  Your energy is sapped because you are “game on, all the time” and it never seems to stop.

Here’s the thing…

Cancer sucks, but it’s only physical.

It can wear you down, but it can’t take your faith.  It can’t change your heart or the way you feel.  It can’t affect the way you love your family or the way you live your life.

God has a plan.  We may not understand it, but he knows what we are going through, and he is right there supporting us.  I couldn’t even survive something like this without Him.  When my life started taking all these crazy turns and it seemed like everyone I loved was being diagnosed with cancer, I said to my husband over and over, “God won’t give me more than I can handle.”

Hold on and let Him guide you.

Live every day of your life like tomorrow is your last day on earth.  Enjoy every single moment you have left with your loved ones and keep fighting for a cure long after this experience is over. Let this make you stronger and refuse to let it tear you down.

You were given this mountain to show others that it can be moved.

And it can be moved. Show the world it can be moved.  You are stronger than even you know.

I know you’re exhausted and I know that things feel like they aren’t getting better… I know you need a break and would do ANYTHING for a day off from this, but it’s not in the cards right now.

Cancer is strong, but you are stronger.

You have to hold on a little bit longer.  Your family needs you to hold on. Put your faith in God and let Him help you through this.  Eventually, things will look better, and you will be so thankful that you didn’t give up.  You can do this and it will feel so GOOD when you’re kicking cancer’s ass.

Just do your best and keep going.  Some of the MOST amazing things in this world have been created by people who felt totally defeated and were ready to give up.

This won’t last forever.  Eventually, the sun has to shine.  Just hang on.

You’ve got this!

P.S. Overwhelmed by all this cancer business, we can relate!
