Quick and Easy Ways to Stay Hydrated During Cancer.

Staying hydrated during cancer treatment is crucial!  Chemotherapy, radiation, and so many medications you may be taking can cause dehydration as a side effect.

Here are the best quick and easy ways to cancer hydration…

Mint, lemon wedges and fruit infused glasses of water.

1. Drink Water Regularly

  • Shoot for 8–12 cups of fluids daily (or even more if your doctor wants you to push fluids).
  • Keep a water bottle with you to sip throughout the day.
  • Set a timer or alarm as a reminder to drink.

2. Try Hydrating Foods

  • Eat water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers, oranges, and soups.
  • Try broths or smoothies if plain water tastes bad.  They may be easier to tolerate.

3. Experiment with Different Fluids

  • Herbal teas, electrolyte drinks (like Gatorade), or diluted fruit juices can help.
  • Coconut water is a great natural hydrator.
  • Milk or plant-based alternatives can also provide hydration.

4. Manage Nausea and Taste Changes

  • If water tastes bad, try infusing it with lemon, lime, berries, or mint.
  • Drink with a straw to bypass taste sensitivities.
  • Ginger or peppermint tea can help settle nausea.

5. Watch for Dehydration Signs

  • Dark urine, dizziness, dry mouth, and fatigue are signs of dehydration.
  • If you have diarrhea or vomiting, increase your fluids and talk to your doctor about electrolyte replacements.
